WHILE AWAY THE HOURS

One of the best pass-times that I don’t do enough of is sitting in a decent coffee shop, whilst it is raining (or snowing), people watching. I read somewhere else about other people that do this armed with a pen and pad and make notes on the things that they see and hear to incorporate into stories. I think that is a great idea; the next step up from just people watching.

The ideal location would not be on a really busy thoroughfare nor a deserted street but a place where there is a small(ish) but frequent number of passers-by so that you can observe and feel Sondor(ous? Sic*) for the people that pass you; on top of this whilst rain is good, a downpour isn’t as all you will see is people running past with umbrellas up.

I suppose thinking about it the pinnacle of this scenario would be getting to the coffee shop, buying a large coffee (in a proper mug rather than that cardboard crap) and sitting on a comfy stool by the window but away from the door. Then there is a thunderstorm and a complete downpour of rain for about 15 minutes. This satisfies the Pluviophile in me storm thing. Then the storm stops and the rain subsides to a drizzle and then I could start my people watching.

I would love to find a place close to me that would be good for this kind of thing, and if I did I wonder if I would actually go there and do it? Life seems to pass so quickly these days and at the moment I have two main states, bored or wanting to be alone, and when I want to be alone my energy levels are such that I couldn’t face going out. Perhaps one begets the other and I need to just get off my arse and do.

This picture reminded me of that although this picture is of somewhere totally different, Venice, now there is a place I would like to explore, but that is for a different post.

Do you get anything from this picture? Is it just a bit meh for you or do you find something rich and interesting in it? Please share your thoughts either way.Moi…

    1. Hey, I just saw this reply to the post, apologies for the late response. extremely long time no speak. I hope all is well with you?

Yeah I love pics like this too, there are a few street in London that have a similar vibe, although those areas tend to be crowded for the most part.

lend me your thoughts
